Rookie detective Park Sun Woo and Seo Do-Cheol, a veteran of the Violent Crimes Investigation Division, pursue a serial killer who rocks their world. Follow Beterang (2015). I saw this film at this year’s Cannes Film Festival – and what started out as a movie just to fill my free time ended up being the best film I saw at Cannes this year! (And I saw Lanthimos’s ‘Kinds of Kindness’ and Paul Schrader’s ‘Oh Canada!’.) This film had everything a good film should have – great acting, a good storyline, insane comedy, beautiful action sequences, all with great pacing and comedic timing. The film was subtitled, of course, but the entire audience was laughing their heads off the entire time and applauded wholeheartedly when the film ended. The film follows a team of special case investigators within the Korean police department who are investigating a serial killer with a unique modus operandi. You would normally expect the film to be dark and disturbing, but you’ll be surprised at how effortlessly comedic all of these scenes are. Give it a shot!
